John Warner Backus: Redo From Start

"God is Real, unless declared integer." - J. Allan Toogood, FORTRAN-programmeur.

"Consistently separating words by spaces became a general custom about the tenth century A.D., and lasted until about 1957, when FORTRAN abanoned the practice." - SUN Microsystems, FORTRAN referentiegids.

"The primary purpose of the DATA statement is to give names to constants; instead of referring to pi as 3.141592653589793 at every appearance, the variable PI can be given that value with a DATA statement and used instead of the longer form of the constant. This also simplifies modifying the program, should the value of pi change." - Vroege FORTRAN handleiding voor Xerox-machines.

En tenslotte: "Warning: Go directly to Jail. Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200."
